Scientists from Scripps and Penn State University conducted acoustic research from FLIP during which underwater acoustic data was transmitted from mid-water hydrophone arrays moored to the ocean floor with BuoyTec Elastic Moorings. These moorings provided for secure and accurate underwater placement of the arrays and isolated them from the motion of the surface buoy
