University of New Hampshire
Offshore Aquaculture Research Buoy

Location: Gulf of Maine, South of Isles of Shoals, New Hampshire

Water Depth: 53 meters

Buoy Type: Surlyn foam, dish-shaped, 1.6 meters (dia)

Mooring Type: Single-point, with 6 (six) element Elastic Mooring Array

The University of New Hampshire's environmental research buoy was deployed in 1999 in support of UNH's offshore aquaculture program.
Located just south of the Isles of Shoals, NH the buoy is immediately adjacent to the project's fish cages.

The project required oceanographic data from precise depths from the surface for permitting and modeling purposes. BuoyTec's Elastic Mooring Array restricted the movement of the buoy and maintained the sensors at the desired level. The mooring tension limited the lateral movement The Elastic Mooring Array also ensured consistent radio telemetry performance by minimizing buoy roll.

The water depth at the site is 50 m, but is subjected to over 10 m waves during extreme storm events. More information regarding this
buoy deployment can be found at the
aquaculture project's buoy web site
.
